Australian musical duo Jess & Matt tied the knot on September 8, 2018 in the Hunter Valley. We give you the inside scope on this celebrity wedding.
Musical duo Jess Dunbar and Matt Price auditioned for The X Factor in 2015, making it through to the grand final before being signed by Sony.
Two years later, while on a photoshoot in the Blue Mountains for their band, Matt popped the question.
“On the third day we were supposed to be filming at the famous Lilianfels Restaurant and we were dressed in our finest formal dinner wear,” Jess reveals. “Before I could walk through the door, [Matt] grabbed my hand and led me around the corner to an amazing garden surrounding a beautiful water fountain.”
While a string quartet played, Jess was handed a glass of Champagne, before the waiters flipped over a sign, which read, ‘Will you marry me Jess?’.
“Needless to say, I was a mess!” says Jess.
The big day
“I was checking the weather every hour because it was forecasted to rain, but as I put my dress on, everyone looked outside and was speechless – the clouds parted, blue skies appeared and the sun came out!” says Jess.
The couple exchanged vows on the grounds of Hunter Valley’s Wallalong House, where they also held their reception.
“We really wanted to have a getaway weekend where our guests could come and let their hair down and stay out of town,” Jess says.
“The Hunter Valley is still so close to our home Sydney, but really feels like a different world from the city and you’re transported to some of the most stunning landscapes we’ve ever seen.”
The happy bride reveals her most cherished moment from the big day: “Seeing Matt for the first time was just so overwhelming, it was such an incredible moment. I completely lost it and cried all the way down the aisle.”
On the big day, the bride wore a dress by Sant Elia.
“I knew I either wanted a high neck or strapless dress, then Steph [Sant Elia’s designer Stephanie Cherrington] brought out this two piece set which was like nothing I’d ever seen,” says Jess.
“It was a sheer corset with delicate flower details and detachable sleeves, a gorgeous high waisted skirt with a small train. As soon as I put it on I knew it was the one. It was just so unique,” she says.
“My go-to for accessories was Affinity Diamonds. I found the most delicate drop earrings, which were perfectly understated, and a stunning diamond ring for my right hand to tie in with the flower details of my dress.”
The catering: “I loved looking for unique things that challenged the norm and we didn’t want to feel like we had to always follow standard tradition,” Jess reveals. “People could drink champagne and eat cheese with us before photos … these little details really made the day unique and changed the whole energy as people couldn’t predict exactly what was coming next.”
The bridal party: “I think we had the world’s biggest bridal party in history,” laughs the bride. “It was extremely difficult to pick who would be in the bridal party, so we had them all – six girls and six boys.”
The styling: “The words ‘bohemian chic’ kept coming up when we explained our style,” Jess says. “[Florist Jade McIntosh] totally went above and beyond to style the entire wedding from flowers to little details like stunning brass and copper chairs, vases and candle holders. We wanted the styling to reflect us and our music, and she really captured our spirit.”
The guest list: “We started at around 120 and it quickly rose to 160 in a heartbeat,” Jess admits. “We have met so many special people in our lives so it was hard to narrow it down. The energy of the day completely blew us away, and that was all because of the people we had there – at the end of the day, that’s what’s most important.”
Jess’ pro bride tip: “Try not to over schedule, things never run the way you plan and you’ll be stressing about that you’re not on time!”
