Here are a few tips to keep in mind when selecting your own “first dance” song

Identify songs that are meaningful to you as a couple.

You may already have “your song”, otherwise think of a band or music act you’ve seen together you’ve both liked or what music was playing during significant moments together, such as your first kiss, date, or road-trip.

Ask your parents (or grandparents) what songs they danced to at their weddings.

Playing the song for your first dance can be a way to celebrate your family members’ commitment as well as your own. Perhaps you could start a tradition.

Look for songs that fit your wedding theme.

If your theme is “Old Hollywood Glamour” then a jazz standard would be appropriate. Perhaps your wedding calls for a vintage, booty-swinging playlist that complements your Gatsby theme.

Decide what type of dance you will do.

Whether you choose a waltz, rumba or an intimate slow dance, the pace of the dance type you choose will dictate the tempo of your first dance song.
