Choosing your wedding gown

Arguably, for many brides, the most important element of their wedding day is “The Dress”.

With so many eyes on the bride, finding a gown that flatters your figure and that you will feel amazing in is a must.

Rhonda Langford, owner and bridal specialist of Strutt Design Studio knows a thing or two about finding that all important wedding gown.

What things should brides keep in mind when they start searching for their wedding dress?

The most two important things to keep in mind are budget and cut. You need to find a gown that flatters your figure, suits your theme of wedding and fits in with your budget. It’s also good to have an open mind, as a gown may look stunning on you that you wouldn’t have thought of.

What are some trends you are seeing when it comes to bridal fashion?

Shoulder and back embellishments are huge at the moment. A lot of brides are asking for lace or tulle. Heavy fabrics like taffeta and satin are fading out.

What’s your favourite bridal look?

I love old Hollywood glamour anything Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn inspired.

What is your favourite part about your job?

I love the feeling when I have helped a bride find her dream dress. They glow with happiness and it’s very satisfying.

What is something unique to your service that you are especially proud of?

Both of our bridal specialists are qualified dressmakers. We can educate each bride on what adjustments they will need to make their gown fit 100%. We also specialise in customisation to give your design an individual and unique look. All alterations are done on-site.

What tips would you give to brides to make their wedding dress search run smoothly?

It’s good to do research so you have a rough idea of what you would like, but also keep an open mind to explore different cuts.

Sometimes it’s hard for the bride to explain what they would like so it is much easier to present us with an image.

It’s also not a good idea to try on too many dresses as it can make you more confused.

Orders can take up to five months so it’s a good idea to start looking nine months before your wedding. This way you will be viewing current designs and still have enough ordering time.

Strut Studio are currently offering Bride Tasmania readers 10% off their wedding gown. If you already have your gown picked out you can also receive a 10% discount on alternations.
