Promote your business with weddings tasmania
Candy (or lolly) buffets have gained popularity in recent years. After all, who doesn’t love a bit of the sweet stuff? A candy buffet adds a nice, personalised touch to your wedding day and is fun for guests to indulge in.
Sharon Phelps, Co-Owner of Sweet-As: Delectable Devilish Rock Candy Handmade in Tasmania, offers her expert advice on choosing the perfect candy for your wedding buffet and extends a special offer to Bride Tasmania readers.
What are some of the things couples should consider when they’re choosing their sweets for their wedding?
How did you get started in the industry?
George and I started in a little boutique shop in Melbourne making rock candy for people to come and watch. We loved it from day one.
What’s your favourite part of your job?
The challenge of making someone’s chosen design, whether it is a company logo or a fabulous customised wedding candy or a picture of a cute little piggy. It is always interesting to try and push ourselves to come up with other designs for our range of candies and to keep the mixed lollies (Lolly Scramble boxes) different each time.
What is something unique to your service that you are especially proud of?
Our ability to make our clients customised rock candy for all occasions. We have been making candy for 15 years so are quite experienced in what we do. We endeavour to make it easy for our customers to get the best quality and service every time. We love what we do!
What advice would you give to brides and grooms to ensure their wedding day runs more smoothly?
From experience at our own wedding (George and I got married in April this year), get everything organised well in advance if possible, so you have no last minute rush items your waiting on.
Remember to breathe calmly on the day and take the time to be in the moment. Also make your speeches memorable as they are always something I remember from these events and it’s great to be able to have 100 people all laughing and enjoying your special memories, and get someone to film them so you can watch them again later.
Anything else to add for our readers?
George and I travel around the state making candies on show at events such as Festivale in Launceston in February, Agfest in Carrick in May and the Deloraine Craft Fair in Deloraine in November. So if you would like to come and see how we make these delicious candies and have a taste then please come and visit us.
We are also at Salamanca Market every Saturday usually at the Davey Street end with our retail stall. Look for our giant big pink flag on top of our marquee. Please follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for photos, which we update regularly. We are also Nut Free, Gluten Free, Egg Free and Dairy Free, but not FUN free!
For a limited time, Sweet-As is offering an amazing 40% off all wedding packaging when ordering before the end of February 2015.
