According to a recent survey by US media company XO Group Inc., five per cent of engaged men are now sporting “mangagement” rings.
Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson responded to her boyfriend’s proposal with one of her own, and hers came with a custom-made, five-carat Neil Lane diamond ring for him.
Canadian crooner Michael Bublé also made waves when he sported his engagement ring, citing his Latin fiancée Luisana Lopilato’s native customs as the reason for wearing one.
It appears the jewellery industry has cottoned on to this new trend with many jewellers designing rings that are less expensive than a woman’s engagement ring, but a bit fancier than a man’s traditional wedding band, usually embedded with a tiny diamond or two.
Managing director and founder of Sydney’s Diamond Emporium, Gus Hashem says he has seen an increase in women purchasing rings for men.
“Anything goes these days, which is great from a jeweller’s perspective,” Hashem says. “The more people wearing high-end jewelry, the better!”
What do you think? Would your groom-to-be adopt this trend?
