With more than 30 years of experience in the beauty industry, doing both hair and make-up, we spoke with Lara Anning, owner of Anywhere 4 hair about the things to consider in the lead up to your big day, and why she loves working with weddings.
Anywhere 4 hair is a mobile hair and makeup styling service that comes to you. Lara and her team offer an expert hair and make-up service at your accommodation venue or home – wherever you happen to be getting ready for your wedding. With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, and after a mere 400 weddings, Lara and her team are highly-trained GHD specialists. Lara has also trained extensively with various salons and has completed courses with Keune on contemporary colouring techniques.
“Something I pride myself on,” she said, “is the ability to specialise in both hair and make-up together. I do hair and make-up all the time so brides receive a convenient, quality service, no matter where their wedding is being held.”
A recent addition to Lara’s business are wedding cakes. As someone who loves being creative, she added “I do simple classical wedding cakes, for people who find it difficult to have a cake delivered to remote areas. I make the cake and bring it with me to save them time and stress.”
“I love working with wedding parties,” Lara said. “I get to travel to some remote and interesting destinations, right around the state. I have done themed weddings, such as a Lord of the Rings theme. I’ve done wedding hair and make-up for people in their 70s, and visited some accommodation venues to die for. I’ve also done some great weddings out in the middle of nowhere. [Weddings] are all amazing in their own way,” she said.
Advice for brides-to-be preparing for their wedding?
• Aim to have a hair and make-up trial at least three weeks before your wedding. If you plan on using fake tan for the big day, test it out just before your make-up trial so that your make-up artist can see what colour your skin will become with the tan. “When you book your wedding with Anywhere 4 hair you’re entitled to a discount for a colour, cut and style. You also receive a discount for a hair trial,” said Lara.
• Bring some photographs of hair and make-up looks that you love to your trial. Try to identify what it is that you like about the hairstyle and make-up in the photo, and take into account your own skin and hair colouring and your current hairstyle.
• Don’t compromise your own personal style. Just because you’re having someone else do your hair and make-up, you still need to look like ‘you’ on your wedding day. So don’t go for anything that is too trendy or experimental. The best bridal make-up is usually a more polished version of how the bride usually looks. Remember you have to live with your wedding photos for a lifetime.
• Finally, don’t rush your hair and makeup on your wedding day. Talk to your hair and make-up artist about how much time you should allow for hairstyling and make-up. That way, you should arrive on time at your wedding ceremony looking relaxed, beautiful and unflustered!
