Kasi and Simon, who were living in London at the time, met back in 2007 at a mutual friend’s farewell drinks, held in a typical English pub in Clapham on a freezing winter’s day in February.
A week later Kasi was celebrating her birthday and decided to invite Simon along. “The rest they say is history!” said Kasi.
Having two months left in London before Kasi and Simon were to move to Sydney, they decided to take advantage of London’s proximity to Italy with a weekend away in the romantic city of Verona; the setting for Shakespeare’s most passionate tales, Romeo and Juliet.
On the day of the proposal, the couple were exploring the historic city when Simon suddenly disappeared. When he reappeared he said they should head down to the river, and despite the rain, Kasi reluctantly agreed. Having no idea at all what was about to happen, Simon led her to the Ponte delle Navi bridge.
“Then I turned to see Simon down on one knee popping the question,” said Kasi. “It was a complete surprise!”
Ever since she was a little girl, Kasi had always said she’d love to get married at St Mary’s Cathedral in Hobart. “I was so happy we were able to do so,” she said.
The reception was held at the amazing Mona, Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art. Guests enjoyed drinks and canapés in the Organ room, followed by a sit down dinner in the Eros and Thanatos rooms.
“Our wedding day was amazing,” Kasi said, “but to be honest it all went by in a bit of a blur. Luckily we are able to look back on all of the amazing photos we have.
Highlights and hitches
The day went off without a hitch, “the venue was fantastic and everything seemingly flowed so easily from start to finish,” said Kasi, with even the famously fickle Tasmanian weather holding out.
“The weather really turned it on for us,” Kasi said, “so with family and friends having travelled from the UK and further afield it was great to share our special day without an umbrella in sight!”
With so many of their family and friends travelling from the UK and interstate, the happy newlyweds decided to spend time with them all after the wedding and headed up the east coast for a few days.
Kasi and Simon enjoyed a relaxing two weeks in Tahiti, visiting Moorea and Bora Bora.
Advice for other couples
• Enjoy every moment, as the day passes by so quickly.
• Take yourselves away from the action on your wedding day for a few minutes to allow you to observe everyone enjoying the day and take it all in.
• There are no rules on what day your wedding should fall. There are other days available that may work better for you other than a weekend.
• A good band knows how to keep the dance floor filled, so choose wisely.
