Honeymoon Hotspot: Fiji

Bula! Welcome to Fiji, a sundrenched nation made up of more than 300 tropical islands dotted throughout the South Pacific.

Villas on the green tropical beach with steps into water, Fiji

Famous for its soft coral diving, white sandy beaches and pristine natural environment, Fiji is a haven for conservation, and if the spectacular scenery isn’t enough to attract you to its shores, Fiji has a host of luxury resorts and boutique hotels catering especially to honeymooners.

While international flights land in Fiji from all parts of the world, southern Australians are lucky to have the islands of Fiji just 4-5 hours flying time from Melbourne.

For the perfect holiday, choose from affordable accommodation all the way through to exclusive resorts and barefoot luxury. Or stay in a luxury ‘bure’, a hut made from wood and straw and inspired by local homes, but with some indulgent touches.

Choose from the mainland areas and stay at one of the resorts at the Coral Coast, or check into Denaru Island, just 20 minutes from the airport. Denaru is an exclusive ‘gated’ resort area and home to a handful of internationally branded five-star hotels – many of which cater to honeymooners.

Or combine your time with nights on the mainland before spending time on a couple of Fijian islands. Just be sure to experience the cultural wonders of destinations such as Nadi and/or Suva (the capital) located on Fiji’s main island Viti Levu before you go. These cities are alive with bustling markets, tasty restaurants and fascinating history, and are well-worth seeing before you get lost in paradise.

When to visit Fiji

The best time to visit Fiji is between April and early October. The sun won’t be directly overhead, and the temperature and humidity are pleasant. You will also be avoiding the rainy season during those months.

Although keep in mind the best time to go really depends on your reason for visiting. For those interested in diving or surfing, Fiji’s winter months (June-August) are the best time – for the biggest breaks and the best visibility. For land-based activities such as biking or rainforest trekking, the cooler, drier winter months are still best.

Getting around

Fiji has an extensive and reliable transport network of airlines, rental cars, taxis, ferries, and both long-distance and local buses.
