How to choose your wedding celebrant

Peta Callahan Authorised CelebrantWhen choosing your wedding celebrant you need to ensure you connect with them so you know they are on the same page as you for their role in your big day.

It’s on their shoulders to make sure your ceremony flows seamlessly, with your guests loving every moment, all while putting you at ease.

Peta Callahan, Authorised Celebrant, has some advice for couples planning their special day.

What are some of the things brides and grooms should consider when they’re choosing a marriage celebrant?

Whether they feel comfortable and confident with the celebrant, what kind of fee is involved, and what the content for their ceremony will be.

How can a bride and groom maximise their time spent when meeting with their marriage celebrant?

Have their documents in order. Your marriage celebrant will be creating an ID document with one of the Marriage Certificates which will be an important perpetual record of the marriage which they and future generations will value.

Do you recommend couples writing their own vows?

Yes, with assistance from their celebrant as many couples do not know where to start in creating their own vows.

The best ceremonies are about the couple, their hopes and wishes, their families and their life together and how they value each other.

This way the ceremony will be individual, interesting and help to create a closer connection with the guests.

What’s your advice for couples who choose to do so?

A good vow contains what you most love about your partner and secondly what you promise to them

What is your favourite part about your job?

Understanding the couple and how they want their ceremony to be.

Knowing the ceremony was dignified (although not too serious), meaningful and went smoothly.

What advice would you give to brides and grooms to ensure their wedding day runs more smoothly?

An on-site rehearsal or meeting close to the wedding day is essential to plan the beginning, standing positions and proximity to the guests.
