With the recent marriage equality legislation, Tasmanian tourism operators are now looking to make Tasmania a premier destination choice for same-sex couples to tie the knot and honeymoon, through a new tourism social media campaign.

2. Possibly the most romantic site in Tasmania! Wineglass Bay in the Freycinet National Park is a very popular spot for marriage proposals. It’s also one of the top 10 beaches in the world, and has graced the cover of many a glossy brochure for good reason, it is truly spectacular.

3. On the West Coast of Flinders Island, in the Strzelecki National Park, Trousers Point is known for two beautiful beaches, views to off-shore islands and Mt Strzelecki, and unusual rock features. Trousers Point Beach is the most photographed and celebrated beach on the Island.

4. The riverside city of Launceston is famed for the Cataract Gorge, walking trails, sculpted gardens and the beautiful Tamar River. The vineyards of the Tamar Valley stretch northwest along the Tamar River, and are picture perfect for wedding ceremonies and receptions.

5. Port Arthur was established as a penal settlement in the 1830s. Its 60 or so buildings and picturesque landscape offer visitors a mix of both beauty and horror, and have helped the site to become one of Tasmania’s most popular tourist destinations. Port Arthur’s roofless church, provides an excellent site for ceremonies with a difference.

6. Close to the entrance of the spectacular World Heritage-listed Cradle Mountain-Lake St.Clair National Park, Peppers Cradle Mountain Lodge is perfect at any time. However, for those contemplating a gorgeous winter wedding in the snow, it’s the place to be.
