Hannah & Cameron

How did you and Cameron meet?

We met at a B&S Ball in Bothwell and remained friends for a few years, before we ran into each other in Melbourne at a mutual friend’s birthday party. Once back in Tassie we continued chatting more through Facebook and went on our first date a few weeks later.

How did Cameron “pop the question”?

Cameron surprised me by proposing at our daughter Chelsea’s first birthday party at Tynwald Park in New Norfolk.  After singing happy birthday, Cameron thanked everyone for coming and then got down on one knee and proposed.

Hannah & CameronWhere was your wedding held?

As I grew up in New Norfolk we decided to have our wedding ceremony at St Matthew’s Church in New Norfolk, with Celia Hooker as our celebrant. The reception was held at Tattersall’s Park Function Centre overlooking the Elwick Race Course. We both enjoy the races so thought it would be a fitting venue for us.

What was your wedding day like?

The day went off without a hitch. We had a lot of fun with our huge bridal party that consisted of seven bridesmaids, seven groomsmen and two flower girls.  The church ceremony was really relaxed which is what we wanted. We had our photos taken at the historical Royal Derwent Hospital and then in the race course grandstand.  The service we received at the reception was fantastic. The food was delicious and our DJ had us all up and dancing. We had a photo booth (provided by Partybooth) which was a big hit and produced some great photos, especially towards the end of the night! On the day it was forecast to be quite cold but it turned out to be a perfect a warm and sunny day.

Highlights and hitches during the wedding?

The biggest highlight for us was just being able to enjoy our wedding day with all of our family and friends. It was pretty much like a big party and we had a great time. We were happy we were able to have our daughter take part in the wedding too by being a flower girl.

We went on a 10-night cruise around the islands of Vanuatu and New Caledonia. It was very relaxing with lots of eating and drinking cocktails!

What advice/tips would you offer other couples?

When planning your wedding, accept help from your bridal party, friends and family. People are happy to help! On your wedding day don’t let yourself get stressed, just enjoy your special day as it goes so quickly.  Make sure you have plenty of time for photos. Because of travel and having a later ceremony, I wished I had made a bit more time between for photos. It was fine in the end and we got amazing photos but I still couldn’t help but worry about the timing on the day.
