What are some of the things couples should consider when they’re searching for a reception venue?

I feel the most important points to think about are: does the venue suit your wedding style and budget? Don’t forget to consider the distances of travelling from where you are getting married to the reception and also where the photos will be taken. Is there somewhere for your guests to enjoy a drink on-site while photos are taken?

You should also connect with the wedding coordinator – you’ll be spending a lot of time with them!

How can a bride and groom maximise their time spent when meeting with their reception venue coordinator/caterer?

Come prepared with a list of questions and ideas and ask the coordinator for suggestions. Have an idea of your budget. Let your coordinator talk you through your night – you will be reassured that you can trust the venue to have everything done the way you want it. Remember, you may not have done this before, but the coordinator has organised many weddings!

What are some trends you are seeing when it comes to wedding receptions and/or catering?

We are seeing plated dinners, buffet meals and more traditional wedding receptions still very popular, however cocktail style weddings are emerging as a lovely informal option.

Our Goulburn and Terrace Rooms offer beautiful blank canvases for the bride and groom to decorate or theme as much or as little as they want. So far this year we have seen a country theme, Hollywood and colourful pom poms to create a fun atmosphere.

How did you get started in the industry?

I started my first job at Salamanca Market at 14 and discovered a passion for dealing with the public. I soon moved on to the hospitality industry in restaurants and hotels in Hobart before moving overseas.

On my return to Hobart I wanted to develop my hospitality career further and moved into organising events and I love it! Weddings are so much fun! This is a role where my extensive food and beverage background is incredibly helpful as I understand the operational side as well as the meticulous planning needed to run a major event.

What is something unique to your service that you are especially   proud of?

If you want Magnum ice creams at 11 pm I’ll make this happen for you! Our team pride ourselves on our flexibility to deliver what you want and think outside the square. 

Recently a wedding party arrived early to set up their decorations and I was able to be there from the very start of the process. Providing personalised service goes a long way – I joined in to help tie sashes while we talked. It’s all part of the service!

What advice would you give to brides and grooms to ensure their wedding day runs more smoothly?

Have a plan for the day but remember if something isn’t going to plan, breathe, communicate and have trust in me to work through things with you. Remember it is your day and the reception is where you can relax, celebrate and let others fuss over you.
