Holly and Paul met at a football club dinner and their attraction was instant. When Paul asked Holly for her phone number at the end of the night, she didn’t have to wait long to hear from him as he texted her just an hour later. “He was so nice, and a little awkward, and I really liked that!” says Holly.
Paul too was immediately smitten. “She was interesting, smart, so easy to talk to and absolutely stunning and I couldn’t wait to see her again,” he says. “I still consider myself so lucky to have met her that night.”
After just a couple of months together, Paul took Holly to Queensland to meet his family and they too were taken by her. “The first time I met Paul’s dad he told me that I should marry Paul, and I did!” Holly says.
Paul proposed to Holly during their first overseas holiday together to the Gili Islands, off the North West Coast of Indonesia. Unfortunately, the evening was memorable in more ways than Paul had planned.
After a fantastic day snorkelling with turtles, the couple were relaxing on the beach when Paul asked Holly to marry him. After giving Paul an emphatic “Yes!” Holly began to feel faint and sick and soon realised it was more than excitement making her feel ill.
By the next day Paul had also fallen sick and while the pair tried to put on a brave face when they Skyped their family to share their good news, they felt lousy. While Holly recovered after a few days, things got worse for Paul who ended up in hospital for a week with dengue fever. “It was definitely a trip we will never forget, but I’m not sure we’ll be rushing back anytime soon,” says Holly.
Holly and Paul were married on a beautiful Tasmanian day that was “sunny and warm, but not too hot”.
After falling in love with St Mary’s Church and Quamby Estate at Hagley on a previous visit, both picturesque sites were the obvious choice for the pair’s ceremony and reception. Their exchange of vows at the beautiful country church was followed by a small and personal celebration for 80 family members and friends at the historic Quamby Estate homestead.

HIGHLIGHTS AND HITCHES
Wearing her Swan Lake-inspired Paolo Sebastian wedding gown with a five-metre veil of Italian tulle, was one of Holly’s highlights of her wedding day.
She also loved hearing the church bells ring out as the bridal car approached the church and seeing her three niece’s in their soft floating dresses and matching headbands. (The girls also loved Holly’s long veil and spent a lot of time after the ceremony playing underneath it).
Other memorable moments for Holly and Paul included dancing as husband and wife to a tune sung beautifully by one of their bridesmaids, Polaroid shots and messages from family and friends left in their wedding guest book, as well as a spectacular fall by another of their bridesmaids during the throwing of the bridal bouquet. “She came out on top though and she had the bouquet firmly clutched in her hands,” Holly says.
A picture taken of all Holly’s girlfriends huddled under her veil and dress, was also something she loved and will never forget.
Holly and Paul enjoyed a ‘mini-moon’ at Quamby Estate, which included a three-course meal in their own private dining room, the night after the wedding. “It was so relaxing and made us feel so special,” Holly says.
TIPS FOR OTHER COUPLES
Try to take some time out before the wedding to unwind. Holly’s sister organised a surprise hour-long massage for her the day before the wedding. “It was so nice just to have some time to stop and relax.” ❤
