What are some of the things couples should consider when they’re searching for a reception venue?
Couples have so much to think of in planning for their wedding and the reception venue is one of the most important.
Aside from the physical characteristics that make a venue stand out as memorable and beautiful, couples want somewhere that they and their guests will feel comfortable and respected.
Obviously price is a consideration, and having a range of food and catering options, but overall the bride and groom want minimal stress and bother on the big day, so planning is everything.
Access to accommodation for guests and the couple pre- and post-wedding should be considered, which is why Tall Timbers Tasmania is a popular venue, providing ample rooms in a range of options to suit guests, and even luxury apartments for the pre-wedding preparation and honeymoon night.
How can a bride and groom maximise their time spent when meeting with their reception venue coordinator/caterer?
It will help if the bride and groom have done some research before their first meeting with the reception venue coordinator. Ask for an information pack to be sent out prior to the meeting so you can look through the menu and catering options, floor and seating plans and write down any questions to raise at the meeting.
Also, let the venue know in advance if would like to inspect accommodation or function rooms so they can arrange a suitable time. And, as a couple, make a list of your requirements to take to the meeting – the items that are ‘must haves’ in your choice of wedding venues, those that you are flexible on, and anything else that you need advice and options on.
What are some trends you are seeing when it comes to wedding receptions and/or catering?
The traditional sit-down two and three course weddings are still popular, although couples are starting to change things up a bit to personalise their special day and make it stand out from the crowd.
Smaller, more intimate weddings, with top quality Tasmanian food and wine, are also growing in popularity, as are relaxed, less formal daytime receptions.
One thing that couples want these days is quality and value for money. Whether their budget is limited or unlimited, they still want ‘bang for their buck’ in terms of the quality and standard of the food and service they receive.
Tall Timbers has a range of rooms and menu options available to suit all types of receptions, from smaller areas to suit cocktail and canapé style receptions and dinners for groups of 20-30 people; to large function rooms catering for up to 350 people; and outside spaces for less formal yet still gourmet BBQ receptions.
How did you get started in the industry?
Tall Timbers Tasmania has been a popular venue for weddings and receptions since it opened in 1989. It offers a ‘one-stop shop’ for weddings – providing beautiful landscaped gardens and waterfalls for the wedding ceremony and photographic memories, both large and small receptions areas, and ample accommodation options for visiting family and guests, all at the one location.
Tall Timbers has won multiple awards for its accommodation, dining and service standards, and is the largest hotel and accommodation provider in the region.
What is something unique to your service that you are especially proud of?
As a complete wedding destination, Tall Timbers has much to be proud of in terms of their ability to cater for all facets of the wedding at the one location. This is certainly something unique to other reception venues in the region, allowing guests to enjoy a more relaxed day with minimal fuss and shuttling between locations.
And speaking of location, ours is very unique and special – situated in Tasmania’s far North-West, Tall Timbers is on the edge of the Tarkine Wilderness, providing peace and tranquility, yet easy access to everything within the region including Stanley, Cradle Mountain and the gourmet food and wine trails of the Cradle Coast region.
What advice would you give to brides and grooms to ensure their wedding day runs more smoothly?
Work out your budget and make your list of ‘must-haves’ before you start your research. Do your research and be prepared to change your mind as you go – just keep it within your budget and be true to your list of ‘must haves’.
